Cutty Sark is a British clipper ship used as a trading ship under the red ensign of the British merchant fleet for 25 years. Built on the River Leven, Dumbarton, Scotland in 1869 for the Jock Willis Shipping Line, she was one of the last tea clippers to be built and one of the fastest, coming at the end of a long period of design development which halted as sailing ships gave way to steam propulsion. This beautiful replica is made by master craftsmen using historical photographs and drawings. Built from high-grade wood using a plank-on-frame construction method that is similar to the building of actual ships. Each model requires hundreds of hours to finish and must go through a demanding quality control process before leaving the workshop. The ship’s figurehead shows Cutty Sark, the nickname of the witch Nannie Dee from Robert Burn’s 1791 poem. According to legend, she chased Tam O’ Shanter, snatching his horse’s tail before he escapes by crossing water. Comes fully assembled. Measures 22"L x 5 1/2"W x 17"H.
