1932 Lincoln Sport Roadster
The 1932 Depression sunk car sales to pre-WWI levels whilst over 12 million people were unemployed. Edsel Ford, President of the Lincoln division, saw a sales opportunity at the top end of the market. Correctly figuring luxury cars like Pierce-Arrow and Duesenberg would not survive, Lincoln developed the new luxurious “KB” series— featuring a massive 447 cubic inch V-12 engine and an enormous 145-inch wheelbase. Weighing over 2 tons, costing more than the average house, and with bodies built by the great coach makers at the Walter Murphy Co., only 30 Sport Phaetons and 3 Sports Roadsters were built in 1932, but they helped Lincoln gain its place as one of America’s premier luxury auto marques
